Who knew that you can drive just over an hour from the Twin Cities to enjoy some great country music at a reasonable price? We had the pleasure of visiting the Midwest Country Theatre located in the sleepy midwestern town of Sandstone, MN. It is an old-style down home Country Western music theater that brings in acts from all over the country. This Merle Haggard tribute weekend, brought us the excellent performances of Troy Cook, Jr. and Mike Siler.
It seems that we are always the youngest ones at these concerts, by about twenty years or better. We don’t mind because we like listening to the music we grew up hearing played on the old 33 1/3 RPM LP record player our parents owned.
An added bonus is the free coffee that is served, which we are allowed to bring right into the theater. I guess they trust the oldsters not to spill on the seats or each other. Every seat is a good seat in this house. Some performances sell out more than others. This day was not a sold out event, but probably because it was one of our final gorgeous Minnesota weekends. Minnesotans just don’t want to be inside when the weather is sunny and 75 degrees outside.
