There’s nothing like a visit to a local winery. After spending time with our daughter at St. Mary’s University for parent weekend, we decided to make a stop in the small Minnesota town of Cannon Falls, rather than driving by it once again. While there, we discovered the Cannon River Winery, and learned that it is the largest winery in the whole state of Minnesota. We were delighted to find out that there was a party going on that day to celebrate their 8th Anniversary.
We love events where we are seated with people we don’t know, especially if it ends up to be a fun table, which it was. We met two lovely women who were friends, out celebrating an 84th birthday. We also sat with four young 30-something women celebrating friendship and a toast to one of them who was moving out of town.
Our deal of the day was three flights of wine for just five dollars. It was such a good deal that we went for two of them, which gave us extra time to hang around to hear Sonny Bryant of The Platters sing as part of the festivities. He was excellent, so we’ll be looking him up to see one of his local shows in the Twin Cities.
Cannon Falls is just over four square miles, has around 4,100 residents, and is located southeast of Minneapolis about 40 minutes.
